What is the difference between different video recording formats

For Windows software (ToupView), H.264, H.265, WMV and AVI format are supported.

1) H.264 is supported on windows 7 or above. Every frame in the video file contains timestamps and the playback time of the recorded files is the same as reality.

2) H.265 is supported on windows 10 or above. Every frame in the video file contains timestamps and the playback time of the recorded files is the same as reality. With the same bitrate settings, better quality could be achieved than H.264 format.

3) WMV is supported on all windows platform. Every frame in the video file contains timestamps and the playback time of the recorded files is the same as reality. All the resolutions of all the cameras can use this format. For the horizontal resolution which is bigger than 4096, 3rd party player is recommended, such as VLC media player, instead of default windows media player.

4) AVI is depreciated because it does not contain timestamps for frames. It only support an average frame rate settings and can only play frames at specified frame rate. The duration of the whole video file will be set as accurate as possible. If MJPEG encoder format is specified, if the AVI file cannot be played by windows media player (this happed on some computers when the height of the video is not a multiple of 4), please try to use the 3rd party software.

For Mac and Linux software, H.264 is used. The feature is the same as it is used on windows software.
